A diminishing workforce of direct service professionals is causing a crisis for Floridians with disabilities and those who rely on such services. With low wages, fears of COVID-19, a 51 percent turnover rate, group homes closing and trouble finding in-home help, the situation is dire.
The American Rescue Plan’s home and community-based offer would allow Florida to receive additional Medicaid funding to help sustain this workforce and preserve the wellbeing of thousands of residents with disabilities.
In a recent letter to Governor Ron DeSantis, the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) urged the governor to seize this unique opportunity from the federal government as we are at a critical point in sustaining the programs that support our individuals, families and caregivers.
