Floral, Florida – My son, Luke, lives in a group home and attends Adult Day Training on weekdays. His direct care givers are the closest thing we have on this Earth to angels. They are kind and competent and professional. And Luke loves them. They are also grossly underpaid and I live in terror that they, as much as they may want to do so, may not be able to live on the wages they receive. We are in a crisis situation in Florida, with group homes and Adult Day Training programs closing across the state. This must be the year that Florida finally adequately addresses this dire situation and pulls itself up from its appalling 50th place standing among all states for support of DD/ID populations.
