St. Lucie, Florida – Hi, we are DSPs with 15+ years of experience each. We also advise the advocacy group Stand Up For Independence. We work for an amazing and well respected agency, however we are subcontractors (not employees) for the agency. This means: no benefits, no sick pay, no pto, increased tax liabilities, no health insurance, no reimbursement for gas or vehicle expenses, with a pay of $10.50/hr for Personal Supports and only $7.40/hr for companion. This is not a livable wage for such a crucial role for the State’s most vulnerable population. Such low pay means that many workers quit before actually finding a love and passion for the job. Individuals are left with no care or sub-quality care. Please pay fair for care!
