Today, on National Senior Citizens Day, we unite to honor the countless contributions of older adults who have profoundly shaped our communities. This day serves as a vital recognition of their enduring impact—a reminder of the importance of ensuring that our society remains a place where they can thrive with dignity and independence.
At the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, we work to ensure senior citizens and aging caregivers in our communities are more than just acknowledged for the essential roles they play in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). We actively champion their needs, advocating for the resources and support systems that enable these dedicated caregivers to continue their vital work without facing unnecessary challenges.
Through our “Our Care Matters” campaign, we shine a spotlight on the lives and experiences of Floridians with developmental disabilities and the caregivers who support them. Among these compelling stories are those of aging caregivers, whose perspectives offer a crucial perspective of the full spectrum of care in our community. By watching these videos, you can help amplify their voices and contribute to meaningful change. I encourage you to watch and share these powerful stories by following this link: https://www.fddc.org/our-care-
Let us use this day not only to celebrate the legacy of our senior citizens but also to reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the aging caregivers who play such an integral role in our communities.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our mission.
Warm regards,
Valerie Breen
